On a warm day recently, I was sitting outside reading a book. This was in the countryside far from any town. I noticed a honeybee hovering close around my book and my hand holding the book. Before long there were several bees seemingly to inspect my book and my hands. It seemed a curious thing for them to be doing. I have known hummingbirds to try to sip nectar from an embroidered flower on a shirt I might be wearing but I had never experienced this kind of attention from honeybees.

After they satisfied their curiosity, they abandoned me altogether. This took only a few minutes.

That evening when my husband came in from working in the field, I mentioned this happening to him. He had experienced the same thing only the bees were around his face. He was sweating from the work and they gave his face a good going over before moving on.
