Jessica and I have not been separated for any substantial length of time during our two decades together. We each take business trips a few times yearly, that's about it. This week, she went to Arizona for three days and she sent me two private videos in addition to our nightly talks, which I thought was majorly cute. She does stuff like that.

I knew right from the beginning that my feelings for her were different from anything I'd experienced, but it took a relatively minor incident for me to know I would not live without her. We had been together about six years and we decided to go see a movie one Friday night, we agreed to meet at the early show after work to avoid the date night crowd. I arrived a little early, parked and bought our tickets. I was waiting in front of the theater for a few minutes when I saw Jessica's car pull into the lot and park. My heart beat a little faster. I watched her get out of her car and walk toward me and she smiled, she always smiles when she sees me. The closer she got to me, the faster my heart beat and inside my head, once again I thought "Jessica's here, let the party begin." That is my blessing and I know I have a boatload of good karma from somewhere that is paying off bigtime.

Last night she took the red-eye from Arizona to Boston, so when I arrived at Logan airport to pick her up I figured she'd be tired. A tired Jessica is special fun. She doesn't get grumpy like some people, she gets giggly and talkative and a little goofy. I like goofy. She called me from her cell phone in the airport and I explained where I was parked and she mumbled something and said "tired." I said, stay where you are I'll come find you. It was quite a trek from central parking to baggage claim, when I saw her--she was leaning heavily on that fabulous suitcase and she was wearing her sunglasses indoors, which she rarely does. In fact, she always tells me "Deborah, take your sunglasses off, you're inside." She was exhausted, and very adorable.

I took the suitcase and said "Yeah, you would not have found your way." She followed me back to the car talking, but she was mumbling so it sounded like "bibble-bibble-bibble-bibble" to me and I was laughing and she was smiling. In the car, I started doing a thing I do sometimes where I make-up every fourth word or so, like I would say, "OK, now back to Addyboogles (or Adda-boring)," instead of saying Attleboro. Normaly, it annoys Jessica when I do that, but not when she's sleepy. She just laughs. When fully awake she'll usually say "talk normal," which amuses me. Sometimes I make a little mouse-squeak noise to indicate "yes" and she will usually say "If you don't talk normally, I am not going to speak to you." But not today, she just laughed and told me that the Arizona cacti told her to say hello to me. I said, "Tell 'em greetings from Boston."

"So, how was Arizona, did you see our old house?" "No, I didn't see it and it was freakin' hot, like 110 at nine in the morning hot. Hot, hot, hot, hot, hot. All I could think was, 'shit, it's hot.'"

The following conversation is one we have whenever Jessica returns from anywhere:

"Welcome home, honey."
"Thanks, I brought you something."
"Who?"
"You, I brought you something."
"Me?"
"Yes."
"Thank you."
