HarePort Scrambles
(I'm feeling accomplished)
Last weekend I got to race the "HarePort Scrambles". They called it that because the motorsports park is near the Bremerton Airport. Previously there was only a dragstrip there, but the Bremerton Cruisers Motorcycle Club made some trails in the surrounding woods to put on one of the best hare-scramble races of the year. I entered the race in the Senior C class on my Yamaha TT-R250. There were 27 riders in that class and I finished 11th place. It may not sound like much, but it was the best finish I ever had! It was a fun course. It had a grass track section, then went into the woods on single-track trails with alot of tight muddy corners, a couple straightaways, and a few mud holes. There were no serious hills, it was mostly on level ground with enough roots, stumps, and bumps to keep me hanging on. This time of year the sun stays low to the south, and caused momentary blindness (and anxiety) in some sections of the course. It was a 7-mile loop altogether. I completed 3 laps in 1hr 45min. And only dumped my bike once. It was the last event of the year in the NMA series. What a way to wrap up the season! The local newspaper even covered the race. http://www.kitsapsun.com/news/2008/nov/24/motorcycle-event-emerges-from-weekend-race-a/ If you are a dirtbiker in the Northwest and want to get involved, go to www.nmaoffroad.org See you on the trails!
