Inactive users socks shoes sneakers sandals.. and a whatnot
(I'm feeling cynical)
Happyyoda just recently brought this concept back to the front of my mind when he wrote a bulletin about the numbers of friends and subscribers one must manage when they keep growing.
Its somewhat of a conundrum as its an administrative task we each have to put time aside to accomplish.
I let mine go unattended for a while and just recently spent over 4 hours clearing out both lists so I could get the numbers down.
I do believe all the numbers are inflated by the mere fact that once and account is inactive for months on end OR the user invokes, the Username doesn't disappear by default from our lists. Thats leaves of administratvie tasks for the user. There are so many tasks that I do which should essentially occur by default if there were scripts for such events, that sometimes I just dont have time.
In the end, I eliminated almost 300 from the friends list and over 200 from my subscribers list. Thats alot folks. Days later, I see there are more inactives. I just cant spend my whole life managing the numbers. In my case, most often I receive friend invites daily and I would tend to accept them unless I see they are porn spammers. No rules, otherwise. its a free internet.
There sure a lot of people who open accounts and then quit very soon after. Perhaps they're not being entertained by the material they see on the front page. It's just a thought but I've been here over a year and find that the only way to manage my time wisely is to view videos from my subscriptions list only. Thats the only place I find suitable content for the most part. That makes me think how difficult it must be for a new user to find things to watch when they first arrive.
Afterall, it is rare that I see links from the front page to original content that I would watch. If I were joining the site anytime over the last 6 months, I likely would not still be here either..
Its just a thought but my freeking hand hurts from all that deleting. I also visited pages of users whose names didnt ring a bell for me and found most times they have not logged in 4-6 months on average. Thats very telling as well. I used that as another criteria for removing them from my lists. Its a sad thing.. If LV is to be a success you would think there should be some incentive for users to stay....in the biz world, Once you get clients on the hook you have to do something to keep them around...thats just what I've been thinking for a long long time around here.
I keep the videos coming and have more than a handful in the lineup. Its just getting ....old....
feel free to bitch and moan, yell at me..give your opinion...or whatever...anyway, Im back to work..
