Yesterday: First Shift
Nobody knew that "the new girl" was coming to work on Monday because the guy that hired me simply didn't tell anyone. After explaining this to all the other employees, none of them thought it was necessary to train me. Instead, I became the errand-bitch, putting price stickers on shit, and then putting that shit on the shelves.

Some customers come in and no one greets them, so I do. I sell them two pieces of shit and upsell some more shit because I'm the fucking shit. I act like I know what I'm talking about. They believe me. No one working there notices that I'm touching the customers chatting with customers or is concerned that I might be cutting the customers telling them a load of bullshit.

After the customers leave and I've run out of shit to put price stickers on and shit to put on shelves, the workers don't notice I aint got fuckall to do. But I have a good work ethic. So I fold all the messy shit and make them sit pretty like a flower in the display basket. And then I arrange another slew of shit in a basket so they're all lined up and facing the same way --kind of like an army. I even decide against putting the shit in suggestive positions.

The owner comes and tells me to take a bunch of shit out of her trunk and put them in the stock room. When I get to the stock room, the bitch in back tells me to put them out front because they're running out. When I'm almost done that, some other bitch comes and tells me I need to arrange them according to size. So I gotta pull off all the shit and put that shit back. That is fine. Just fine. I seriously don't mind that everyone is telling me to do different and unspecific shit that causes me to be told to do different and more specific shit later. Really. But after I finish putting away this ugly shit according to size, someone else comes along and asks "Did you put security tags on these first?"

fuck. you.

Yesterday: After Work
My princess feet are ridiculously sore after standing for 7 hours. -like: I-can't-walk-properly sore.

Today:
Then the guy that hired me into this job I hate calls and apologizes sincerely for fucking up and thinking that he scheduled me for the following Monday when he actually scheduled me for yesterday. Then he tells me he wants to confirm when I'm coming in next. I tell him "You told me Monday, Thursday and Friday to start" and he says "That sounds good. Or you can come in tomorrow, Wednesday.... uh, or not. If you like, you can come in Wednesday and Thursday and Friday. If you want. Or maybe just for a part of a shift, not the whole one. Up to you.."

You're the fucking manager. Fucking manage your own employees.

Anyway, apparently I'll get some training tomorrow, and if I do, then maybe I won't hate this job. (emphasis: maybe)

In conclusion...
Reasons I want to like this job:
-it is close enough for my lazy ass to bike to work
-I finish work at 5:30pm, which is earlier than all the other retail places who want me to stay until 9pm
-they will give me full-time hours
Reasons I hate this job:
-my feet hurt
-they seem unprofessional and disorganized (not in front of customers, but as a new employee, I'm unimpressed)
-my manager seems like a real dolt
-the store makes me want to cut the customers

It sounds like you're great at adapting to a very amorphous environment. Your job so far seems existential. It has no real purpose. Fortunately, the paycheck serves one, though. ;-)

I use to be in what I called "throw away jobs". A throw away job is a job that you will not hold for long, can survive without, and has no effect on your future. Think Bill Murry as the cab driver, in the movie Stripes. You just have to realize that none of this matters, and you are free to fuck with people.

Before you cut any customers it would be best to touch base with your boss. Some retail stores have a policy of not fileting customers, some don't.

nyc is disappointed in you
there is nothing worse than having to frolic around with your thumb up your ass and a big stupid smile on your face while waiting for an asshole with inflated self worth to tell you what to do. But myyyyy god do I feel you on the feet thing. Taking my shoes off when I get in the car is my facorite part of my day. I'm thinking you'll like the job more when you have more of a sense on wtf you're supposed to be doing.

are you really serious about that job? I am somewhat disappointed in you Brianne, I know you can do much better than that... come to NY and I will ask my friend who work in the UN to give you a job in foreign affairs department.... but then again if you are happy with that, I support you....

i would'nt be too worried in time all fucking shit will seem like normal shit and i guess that will make everything fine
