Me and Live Video and Why I Like Being Here
(I'm feeling cheerful)

I thought I'd write about how I came to be here on Live Video and why I stayed. Like many You Tubers towards the end of 2006, we were frustrated and annoyed at all the problems the site was having. People pointed to Live Video as a good alternative, and a lot of people went there including me. As much as I liked the small community I have found on You Tube (and I still do), it's frustrating when you can't even talk to them because of commenting and messaging problems. If you can't communicate with other users of the site properly, how in the world can you even have community? You can't.

So I found myself setting up shop here on Live Video and almost immediately put up my first video "Hello Live Video" which is well, not public at the moment. But the thing that struck me immediately was how clear the video was. I was quite literally stunned.

The second thing that struck me I can not only post LONG comments on videos, but the message gets posted IMMEDIATELY. I thought that was amazing. That's an indication of how deprived were were at You Tube, when you are amazed that something actually works they way its supposed to.

Within a few months, You Tube seems to have fixed its problems, and a lot of former You Tubers went back and left their Live Video profiles gathering dust. But I stayed.

But to be quite honest, I've never really left You Tube as well. I'd like to think I keep a "dual" citizenship of being on both sites as I enjoy them for different reasons. I post videos on each site on a regular basis, some for You Tube only, some for Live Video only, and many appear on both sites.

The reason I couldn't leave Live Video completely was for all the people I met there who are not here. You Tube definitely is a gigantic site, but I think one can enjoy their stay there if they manage to find a small community that they can interact with well, like I have. Here on Live Video, it's a small village compared to You Tube, but in this village, everyone knows almost everybody. It's kind of cozy in a small town kind of way. And having been born and is still living in a small town, this kind of thing appeals to me a lot.

I've met many people here who have eventually became friends like Matt Hawes (TheHappyShow), Margaret Fabrizio (tree3), and a lot of other people. "Friends" is a word that seems to have lost its meaning in this online world where someone listed as a "friend" isn't really a friend but they're there just so you don't offend them. But there are definitely a few who I've met online who I do truly consider friends. Some are here, and some are on the other site.

"Community" for me doesn't mean a group of people who all get along. Like in any community, you don't agree with everybody. There may be someone you don't like, or someone who doesn't like you, but you can't help see them once in a while when you walk down the street.  Very much like Live Video.

But that's OK, you know. There are definitely people on Live Video that I'd rather not associate with for various reasons, but I accept them as members of the community. There is one specific member here who I have nothing against personally, but watching their videos make me very uncomfortable. I think there may be some friction if we every cross paths so we talked and as far as I understand it, we agreed just to stay clear of each other. And I think that's a great thing.

So yeah, for better or worse, I'm here on Live Video to stay. I think this is a terrific site.

Hello Brianne! It's not you. he.he. Thanks again for all the comments you made to channel recently. Thanks for your comments about my new design. I'm not completely happy with it though. I might change it again very soon. :D

HI GERRY! *WAVES MADLY* ;)

My story is practically the same as yours Gerry as far as joining LV. A few more of the features I was thrilled about was being able to delete my comment if I just said something that I regretted as a lot of times i say things impulsively, Also LV shows the top 1000 videos instead of top 100. YT has become a joke to me that you need 15000 views to be seen by the general public of the site. That limits it to the best "count cheaters" and the "super stars."

I went as far as building channels for some of my friends to get them here. they all came over but some went back to YT. But honestly I have seen as many clever videos over here as over there and when people put up videos on both sites I find some of them are viciously attacked on YT by the droves of wise ass people whos only goal is to see if they can say the dumbest, racist remarks known to man. In general I feel most members on LV make an effort to at least be civil most of the time when commenting about others.

Gerry, I liked that explanation. As you know I have been keeping a dual citizenship as well, but with all the new ways to communicate here on LV, I might just phase out the other one. This is my strictly "Writers" site, whereas I do other creative things on the other one.
