Most Haunted's Yvette ain’t ‘fraid of no ghosts
Jan 14 2009 by Jade Wright, Liverpool Echo
12next
As Most Haunted comes to Liverpool, ghost hunter Yvette Fielding tells Jade Wright why the city is just perfect for the paranormalŠ
YVETTE Fielding sits in a darkened room, terrified by every flicker of movement. She calls out to the poltergeist she’s sure prowls nearby. The camera follows her every move, Blair Witch-style. She screams and flees in horror.
For most people it is, quite literally, their worst nightmare. But not Yvette. This is television gold for the Most Haunted presenter, and it’s how she’s made her fortune.
ŠFrom the youngest Blue Peter presenter to the first lady of the paranormal, she now has not only her own show, but her own channel.
ŠAnd this week, in a seven-night supernatural thrill-fest, she’s conducting a search across a variety of Liverpool locations, looking for answers from beyond the veil of the spirit world.
ŠIt’s something she’s been planning since she first started ghost hunting.
“We thought about going to other places, but we always have a great show when we come to Liverpool – there’s always a lot of paranormal activity,” explains Yvette, 40, in those lovely, flat northern tones. Originally from Stockport, she now lives in Cheshire, to be close to her mum.
Š “We’ve returned to a couple of buildings in Liverpool – St George’s Hall is always great. There’s a lot of poltergeist activity in there, so it’s perfect for us.
Š“Liverpool has been such a lucky place for us, and everyone is so friendly. You go to some places and they turn up their noses and look at you like you’re mad. But never in Liverpool.
Š “Plus, I don’t know if it comes from the links to slavery, or the docks or maybe just the way it was all built, but there’s definitely something there.
Š“For each of the first six nights, we’re looking for a different spirit and then on the seventh night we’re going to try to contact a demon. That’s the most dangerous spirit of all.”
ŠI ask Yvette if she can feel any paranormal activity in Liverpool, and if so where. She hoots with laughter.
“Oh God, I’m not psychic,” she chuckles. “Not a bit. I haven’t got a clue.
Š“I wouldn’t want to. Who wants to see dead people at the foot of the bed? No thank you!
“I’m brave when I’m standing in a pitch black cellar. But I’m scared of my own horses and I can’t watch a scary film. I’ve never seen The Exorcist or anything like that. I’d be terrified.
Š“Even for our channel (the Paranormal Channel) I can’t watch the scary films before we put them on. I preview the documentaries and the normal programmes, but Karl (Karl Beattie, Yvette’s husband) has to check the films. They’d give me nightmares
