MOVIES and TELLING THE TRUTH

(I'm feeling annoyed)

Last night during my show, somene came in to talk about having just worked the night before in a film. He said he had a speaking role. So I innocently asked if he was SAG (that's Screen Actor's Guild) and I asked what the film was about. I also asked what his role was, innocent enough questions which I meant no offense by asking. I just love the whole process of movie-making and I like to hear about on-set stories.

But this person became all defensive. He accused me of "not listening" And others in the show accused me of being argumentative and hostile to said make-believe actor.

One thing no one can accuse me of is not listening. I listen very actively. I pride myself on that. A lot of times I hear what is unspoken. That is known as reading between the lines. When someone tells a vague story about a subject I am intimately familiar with (film-making) I immediately detect that I am being told a LIE. My liar liar pants on fire alarm goes off.

Films are not just something you're out walking and happen to stumble upon the set of and the directors just decides to give you a speaking role. Movies are planned in advance. Before anyone is allowed to get in front of a camera, they have been carefully selected by a casting agent who then submits a head-shot to the director who says "yes I want to hire this person". The actor knows well in advance if he is booked for the gig, he had to confirm his availability for the time that the film is being shot, this is known as scheduling without conflicts (other bookings) If you have dialogue, you are given a script with the words written so you can memorize them. So if you're going to come be on my show and tell me you're in a film then be prepared to give specifics about it, otherwise just shaddap. And stop lying.

What these people don't realize is that I operate on TRUTH. I thrive on it. I seek it. I embrace it. It is the only currency anyone can offer to make them trustworthy in my eyes. If you lie to me, the you have ZERO credibility. And when you tell me anything it then falls under the shadow of suspicion. See?

BY THE WAY GREG, YOU THINK YOU KNOW EVERYTHING I GUESS BUT THIS PARTICULAR MOVIE HAS ONGOING CASTING AND IT CHANGES FROM SCENE TO SCENE.
THE GUYS PLAYING THE SECURITY GUARDS IN THIS PARTICULAR SCENE WERE CHOSEN AT THE LAST MINUTE.
NOT THAT I WAS ONE OF THEM BUT ILL BE BACK ON THE SHOOT THIS SATURDAY AND THEN ONE OTHER DAY WITH ADAM SANDLER.
SO GO TAKE YOUR INSIDE KNOWLEDE AND STICK IT UP YOUR KNOW IT ALL ASS.
