Project 999 on Zolder race track
After only 2 days of testing my semi-finished Project 999s I went to the racetrack of Zolder(Belgium) for some full throttle fun.
It was the first time on that track and it was a little wet during the first session under the overhanging trees in the back section but that couldn't bother me much since I had to get the hang of the ideal lines.
After that session I had most of the lines right so I could focus on braking points and exit speeds and went under the 2 min mark straight away despite many very very slow riders. It's damn scary when you come to a corner at 160mph when there's other people going less then half that speed.
At the end of the 2nd to last session disaster strikes. Some slower rider didn't see me pass at the end of the straight and slams into my side. Rather strange since I was to his left in a left corner. Normally you'd expect that rider to be looking to the left when turning into such corner but apparently he wasn't. In the corner of my eye I see him throw his bike to the left towards the line I took wich put him into an unavoidable collisioncoarse. Just after the apex of the corner he slams into the back right of my bike resulting in me performing a a+ summersault into the air @ approx. 75 mph. At this speed it does take rather long to come to a full stop even on rought concrete. lol
A marchal and me pushed the bike to the pit exit where I checked the damage to the bike. And lo and behold. Except for the clutch springs which were all gone, some skidmarks on the fairing and the clipon beeing scraped off the bike didn't sustain any more damage. I'll post some pictures of the bike one of those days. The bike is just so narrow it's almost impossible to hit any vital parts of the frame and engine.
The bike will be 100% fit again very soon ;)
I know one thing. That new leather suit I bought, wich you can see in the photo, did a hell of a job in terms of protection. Except from a soar right leg caused by the imact with the other bike followed by the impact on the concrete I didn't sustain any injury worth mentioning. I'm also positive the seperate back protector did it's job too.
Wear your riding gear folks
