tao te ching quotes...

here are some quotes from the tao te ching, the sacred text of taoism. generally most things in it are symbolic and
metaphorical, and not always straightforward about what they mean. these ones are fairly straightforward, though still full of metaphors:
(Gia-Fu Feng and Jane English translation):

"...shape clay into a vessel; it is the space within that makes it useful.." -ch 11

"who does not trust enough will not be trusted.." ch 17

"a good walker leaves no tracks" ch 27

"knowing others is wisdom; knowing the self is enlightenment.." ch 33

"...the gentle and yielding is the
disciple of life..a tree that is unbending is easily broken..." -ch76

.."thus an army without flexibility never wins a battle.." -ch76
