Nicely done! Easier to keep my eye on you now, blowing off steam. I'm a little preoccupied by atrocities around Asia, but I admit that North America is worth monitoring. Thanks for the book.

George W. Bush, Richard (Dick) B. Cheney, Donald H. Rumsfeld and others have committed treason (yes, I'm serious with that part) and other high crimes against the people of the United States of America, and yet nothing has been done about it. To this I must ask...why? Well, here's one observation as to that question:

I feel that the reason that nothing's been done is that people in the US have become, over the course of the last 30-odd years, apathetic toward their own governmental workings to the point that they shrug it all off, and also that those who HAVE stood against the machinations of the bureaucracy have managed to be "disappeared" in one fashion or another, or at the very least rumors of such have reached the ears of your average, apathetic Joe Six-Pack.

A couple of years ago, a petition was circulated (I signed it myself) demanding a response from the executive office concerning the Downing Street Memos and other infractions. Over ONE MILLION signatures on this petition were HAND-DELIVERED by a member of the administration. Nothing has since been mentioned concerning this issue.

Bush was questioned during a press conference what Iraq had to do with the attacks of September 11th. Bush's response? "Nothing!" (of course he QUICKLY realized his faux-pas and immediately back-pedaled and tried to explain our reasons for being IN Iraq...) I have a video segment of this if anyone's interested. It's most interesting.

I feel helpless in all of this. I am The Shadow - I stand for bringing the guilty to justice, and in these past years, I have failed the people of the United States by failing to bring to justice the one who most deserves it.

Perhaps there is still time left...perhaps...

I feel a little feeble among all these well thought comments.
Here's what...to answer your question...we can do.
I say we expose everything that is going on.
Make everyone as aware as possible.
Exposure and proof will show who and what we are truly dealing with.
The problem of willful ignorance always comes about.
That is when the truth/facts become ignored because they do not
compliment ones agenda.Brainwashing takes a while to truly clean...once the "dye" is set...It takes a long time to wash it out.
But...out it comes in time.;-)

Ah, I feel much better now...knowing you don't out-cynic me.
(I secretly appreciate and am in need of your hopeful projection)

I guess I'm hopeful in terms of the bigger picture- that no matter how bad it gets, it has to be that way in order for the patterns throughout history to play out, meaning the pendulum swings back around and we learn by it- incrementally (not exponentially, as we might hope).

Each era shines a light on the next, as dim as it is, but relatively speaking, we have a much better time of it than our ancestors did.

Hey, thanks MOTC!

First, people not only watched the presidential primary and paid attention this year... people actually went out and VOTED in it. This year, the candidates will not have been chosen by party bosses and big-wig donors influences, but by the people who actually went out and voted in a primary for once.

The Second and Third things that encourage me are WHO people have voted for. Even though I don't believe either candidate will make much of a difference once in office, it's still a small and significant step. John McCain, while many may disagree with his foreign policies, is at least not the typical "evangelical" type republican and is definitely not the choice the main core of the party wanted to be the nominee. Obama is similar, in that the Clintons had been working the presidency angle within the Democrat party for years now but the voters decided the party isn't going to choose the candidate this year, they are. And I think that is a good start. But it is only a start.

5. I happen to believe the map was given to us in 1776. The Deceleration of Independence and Constitution of the United States are great foundations to build on. It just so happens the the current building is full of termites. Some people are doing more than just griping, but it will take many more people and I believe over time as people learn what they CAN do... and see what differences they can actually make, more and more will be willing to actually DO rather than just gripe.
6. Communication and Fear will be obstacles, no doubt. That's why it will take time. Baby steps :) I think we've already started and, even with the outer appearance of optimism, I am very encouraged by 3 things this year.... (cont'd)

Ahhh, I have answers! :)

1. Not impossible, but will take time. It won't happen with one election cycle. I'm realistic and am willing to be paitent.
2. I believe the cynicism is only amplified because I try to compress my thoughts into short responses so I don't have to type a book. While Cynicism may be there, I believe in a rational, well thought out method of changing things for the better.
3. I know, right?
4. I don't think Anarchy or a coup or any other violent revolution is the answer. Libertarianism? Perhaps it could be part of the solution. The first step is to reverse the brainwashing that voting for someone outside of the 2 major parties is "throwing your vote away". Then, over time, we can elect people who will actually help change the system.

I get the cynicism, MOTC. I feel it. But when I hear that, this is what goes through my mind:
1. Impossible
2. Cynicism on that level is atrophy
3. He's right
4. So what's the full vision there? What are we talking about, really?
Anarchy? Libertarianism? Something without a quick, easy label? What, exactly?
5. Where's the plan? Who's got the map? Is anyone doing anything more than griping about the current situation?
6. Fear of implementing anything unstable, fear of transitional chaos. Is there a plan for that? Can it be communicated to a weary AND leery public in a way that makes sense and doesn't require too great a sacrifice?

My only thing is.... it's a failed 2 party system. The Democratic congress is equally at fault. The President is only 1/3 of our legislative power. all 3/3 have been failed, corrupted, and criminal for decades now. So just going after the Bush administration or rallying for "regime change" just isn't going to make a difference in my eyes. The entire system needs to be changed.
