THE HEDGE
(I'm feeling cheerful)
THE HEDGE
When I was a boy one of my chores was to trim he hedge. Uncle John had a lot with a hedge around it. The hedge serve as fence to keep unwanted critters out– both four footed and two footed. The hedge served well but it had to be kept trimmed.
Hedge kept trimmed and under control is beautiful and is a good fence. Left to itself it grows into tall bushes and is not as pretty nor is it effective as a fence.
In the Bible, Job Chapter 1, we read that the sons of God were gathered in a council and Satan was there also. God asked Satan what he had been doing?
“Oh, I’ve just been meandering around walking to and fro through the earth.”
God said, “Have you considered my servant Job? He is a good man.”
“Ha”, Satan said, “Why wouldn’t he be? You’ve got hedge around him. I can’t get to him.” Then God allowed Satan to after Job. Satan grinned to himself and went to work on Job. He took away all Job’s possession – and Job was the richest man in the country. He killed all Job’s children and he afflicted his body with boils. He made Job’s life miserable. Feeling well pleased with himself he stepped back to see Job’s reaction to all this. Oh, no! He couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
In all this, Job did not sin, nor curse God! He said, “The Lord gives and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.”
We, too, have our battles with Satan. God’s hedge of protection serves us far better than we know. God protects His own. God is always working for our good. He can be trusted! This is the test – yours and mine. Do I really TRUST God?
