Why Am I Like That?

Photobucket

This blog is dedicated to B4Salk and TLDavis who inspired it.

"Whatever the circumstances of your life, the understanding of type can make your perceptions clearer, your judgments sounder, and your life closer to your heart's desire." -Isabel Briggs Myers

"The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment is a psychometric questionnaire designed to identify certain psychological differences according to the typological theories of Carl Gustav Jung as published in his 1921 book Psychological Types. The original developers of the personality inventory were Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers."

Years ago I had the opportunity to take the MBTI. I found it most helpful in defining and understanding myself. My personality type is INFP - Introverted Feeling type. A little of the description I will share here (it is 10 pages long):

"As a feeling introvert, your essential personality is hidden from view. Your facade may not be metal, but it's just as solid and just as vulnerable to misplaced trust. People have to know you well before you'll let down your guard and expose your warmth and sensitivity. Then you open up your trust and hope that the recipients are wise enough to appreciate your gift of admission to the inner sanctum of your life."

"In general, your judging manifests itself within, as you guide your own actions and attitudes by a strong inner sense of values, independent of others' judgment. You have a powerful sense of faithfulness, duty and commitment to the people and causes which attract you. You take your obligations seriously, enforced by your own internalized sense of morality."

My personality is likened to the tin woodsman in The Wizard of Oz - immense sensitivity and enormous capacity for feeling are hidden behind an armored shell. ;O)

More important than what my personality type is and the traits thereof, I wonder what is YOUR personality type? If you think this might be interesting, this link is a good place to start:

very interesting, almost the same as you but ENFP, more of a show off than you! This explains why I didn't get on with someone at work who has the opposite ones to me I think.

That's a great idea to have them write something about it to help them absorb it ... just exposing them to it may help them as they get older to understand themselves.

Mine were right on too. I would be interested to know what you tested as.

I have my students do the test and they either love it or hate it. The danger is that they'll pigeon-hole themselves at such a young age, so I have them write something persuasive that either validates or refutes the findings. They're so impressionable and I want to teach them to question EVERYTHING.

I'll have to go look at what my own findings were, but I know they were right on.

Dana, that sounds just like what I think you would be. You are a teacher, interested in politics and a great charisma to work and enjoy working with the public (no small thing). I really admire that in you and have meant to tell you.
